Iroe, Akae and Nishikide Iroe also called Akae or Nishikide in Japanese describes the porcelain ware hand painted in enameled colors over the glaze. Theoretically, Iroe means colored porcelain over the glaze in general. Akae can be used to describe the iroe porcelain colored in red, green, yellow, blue and black. A word, nishiki meaning a colorful weaving, can be used porcelain decorated in full colors of red, green, yellow, purple and blue.
