It was much later around 1801 in the late Edo period, when the porcelain industry started in Seto, Owari (Aichi prefecture). The methods of making porcelain ware was first brought back by Kato Tamikichi from Arita in 1807. During the Meiji period, inspired by new modern techniques brought from the West, Seto had grown to become the major porcelain maker in Japan. Setomono which means things from Seto has become known as everyday usual porcelain dishes.
Seto Imari 瀬戸伊万里 Seto Imari which means Imari style porcelain produced in Seto. During the Meiji and Taisho period, Seto produced Imari style porcelain in great quantity. Seto Imari rinka shishi plate
